Apple HomePad smart home hub reportedly launching October 2026 with Siri AI

Apple's Home Hub Finally Has a Month: What October Could Bring

On 20 September, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman — the most reliable Apple reporter working — wrote that Apple's long-rumoured smart home hub launches next month. Not alone, either: the report has the "HomePad" arriving alongside a new Apple TV 4K and a new HomePod mini, all built around the new Siri AI.

Regular readers will note this is the same hub that has now slipped past three rumoured launch windows, including the September event where it conspicuously failed to appear. So we'll say this carefully: a dated Gurman report backed by Apple Store preparation chatter is the strongest signal yet. It is still a report, not an Apple announcement.

What the report describes

  • A roughly square display with widgets and clock faces that resemble Apple Watch faces.
  • A new operating system blending elements of iOS, tvOS and watchOS, built around Siri AI — ask it to find information across your devices, play media, pull up photos, manage Notes and Reminders.
  • Two form factors: a stand version — described, memorably, as a "HomePod mini chopped in half" — and a wall mount.
  • Intercom and video calls, with setup handled from your iPhone.
  • No pricing. Nothing for the US, nothing for Australia.

We covered the deeper background — what the hub is for and how it fits Apple's home ambitions — in our Apple home hub explainer, which this news finally gives a date-shaped edge.

What a HomePad would actually do in your home

Temper the expectations to what the device is: a control surface and assistant for Apple Home and Matter-compatible devices. If your smart home is a collection of app-controlled gadgets, a good hub with a screen genuinely helps — one place to see cameras, control lights, run the intercom.

What it is not is an automation platform. It won't run your ducted air conditioning zone by zone, orchestrate forty lighting circuits, manage a whole-home audio matrix or integrate your alarm — the layer that professional systems handle locally, in the rack, with or without the internet. The two aren't competitors; in a well-designed home they meet in the middle, with the professional platform doing the heavy lifting and Apple's ecosystem — Siri, HomeKit, AirPlay 2, Apple Music — layered on top through Control4's X4 platform and Connect service.

Our advice, unchanged

If you've been waiting on Apple to sort out your home: October may finally reward the patience, and we'd love to be proven right about that. But "the hub is coming" has been true since 2024, and your evenings are happening now. The things that make a home genuinely better to live in — lighting, shading, climate, audio, security, properly designed — don't need to wait for a keynote, and they'll work with whatever Apple ships. If October comes and goes again, this post will say so plainly.
