Connect Your System
Connect your systemso we can see what’s actually there.
Before we can check your system against X4, Control4 needs you to list us as your Smart Home Pro. It takes about three minutes on Control4’s own website. There are a couple of things worth knowing before you start, and we’d rather you read them here than meet them halfway through.
Control4 is a closed system.
The only person who can see what hardware is actually installed in your home is whoever is listed as your Smart Home Pro. Until that’s us, we’re guessing at your controller, your keypads and your touch screens.
We’d rather give you a straight answer than an estimate, which is the whole reason for the step below.
What actually changes.
Control4 shows you this partway through the process. It means what it says.
“Changing your Control4 Authorized Pro will immediately revoke your current Pro’s ability to access and service your Control4 system. This action is irreversible.”
Control4 — Change Your Pro
- The change is irreversible. Your current Pro’s access is revoked the moment you confirm, and that step can’t be undone. You can appoint a different Pro later, but you’d be starting that process fresh.
- Your system is “without support” until you pick a new Pro. In practice that’s a few seconds, because you select us in the same flow.
- Assist auto-renewal gets cancelled. If you’re on an Assist or Assist Premium subscription with auto-renew turned on, the dealer change switches it off. Left alone, your remote access would lapse at the end of your term. Tell us once you’ve switched and we’ll get it re-enabled.
- Nothing in your house changes. No settings, scenes, schedules, keypads or passwords are touched. This is a permissions change on Control4’s side, not a change to your system.
- If someone else installed your system, this moves you across from them. If you’d rather keep that relationship and just want a second opinion on X4, tell us — send a photo of your controller label instead. It’s slower, and it touches nothing.
Four steps.
Log in and click Change My Pro
Go to customer.control4.com/account/smart-home-pro and sign in with the same username and password you use for the Control4 app on your phone. Your current Pro’s details sit on the left. The Change My Pro button is on the right.
Open the Control4 login page
Can’t see this page? Check you’re on the Smart Home Pro tab along the top.
Read the warning, then continue
This is the screen section 02 is describing — particularly the middle point about Assist auto-renewal, which is the one that costs you something if it’s ignored. Tick I understand, then click Continue.
Highlighted in the middle: the Assist auto-renewal cancellation. Tell us once you’ve switched and we’ll turn it back on.
Search for us, and pick the right result
Type The Home Automation Store into the search box and press the search button. Two things come back: an option called Undecided, and us. Click our name.
Don’t select “Undecided”. It appears in every search and it leaves your system without a Pro.
Check it looks like this
When it’s done, your Smart Home Pro panel should show our details — The Home Automation Store, Unit 17, 110 Bourke Road, Alexandria NSW 2015. That’s the confirmation. Reply to our email and we’ll take it from there.
Your panel should match this. If it doesn’t, call us before doing anything else.
Questions people ask first.
Can I change it back?
Not as an undo — Control4 is explicit about that on its own warning screen. Once you confirm, your previous Pro’s access is gone. You can appoint a different Pro at any point in future, but it’s a fresh change rather than a reversal. That’s exactly why we’d rather you read this page than click through it.
Will anything in my house stop working?
No. Lights, audio, scenes, schedules and the app all keep running exactly as they do now. This changes who Control4 lists as your professional, nothing else.
What happens to my Assist subscription?
The subscription itself continues. What stops is the auto-renewal, which Control4 cancels as part of the dealer change. Tell us once you’ve switched and we’ll get it re-enabled so nothing lapses. If you’d rather we didn’t, that’s fine — just know your remote access ends when the current term does.
Someone else installed my system. Does this cut them off?
Yes, immediately, and we’d rather you knew that before you clicked than after. If you’d prefer to keep that relationship, don’t do this — send a photo of your controller label and we’ll give you the X4 answer without touching your account.
What do you actually see?
Your system’s configuration — which controller you have, which keypads, dimmers and touch screens are in it, and what firmware it’s running. That list is what an X4 readiness answer is built from.
What happens next?
We come back within two business days with which X4 tier your system falls into, what changes for you, and whether any hardware is standing in the way. A quote only follows if there’s work to do. If your system is already X4-ready, we’ll tell you that and there’ll be nothing to buy.
I can’t log in.
Use the same credentials as the Control4 app on your phone. If that fails, use the password reset on the Control4 site, or call us and we’ll walk you through it.
We’ll go through it with you on the phone.
Two minutes, and you don’t click anything you’re not sure about.
